Don’t get me wrong – I like all the stuff Joan made.

But the sooner we get away from the term “comfort food”, the better. It’s a dangerous mental play – I eat because I’m hungry, not for relaxation or relief. I have favorites like everybody else, but I don’t have a cheeseburger and fries to be “comfortable”. That’s why the country has its horrendous weight/nutrition problem… eating for reasons other than body fuel. And no, I’m not some reformed tree hugger – I’ve always dislike the term “comfort food”.

Some days, I just don’t put the news on. Way too depressing.

@ road trip… I think the term “comfort food” means food that evokes good memories. I think of a big homemade bowl of mac and cheese and smile as I remember my sis and I eating Saturday lunch after playing (running, jump rope, kickball) all morning. Yes, kids could afford the fat then and can’t now. It all begins in the home. When my daughter was little she had small bowl w/ cut up veges and fruit. Me & hubby can’t afford fat but do remember how good the stuff is. Back to strip: aren’t all 3 kids faces adorable? Even little Luci is salivating. And if I recall, Joan is NOT a good cook!

Turning off the TV is cheaper and contains fewer calories.

Now comfort food would be chicken and noodle or dumplings. What about the rest of commenters what is your comfort food?

Our mother was NOT a good cook and my older brother learned to cook out of desperation. Still remember the two of us driving down to Seal Beach from Long Beach and feasting on a cooked dungeness crab. Mom couldn’t understand why we weren’t hungry for Sunday dinner after she’d cooked all day.

Nahh… not testy – just expressing an opinion.

Nothing I enjoy more than a grilled cheese with bacon and a side of fries, but I’ll have that for lunch because that’s what I want that day, not because it invokes any special feelings.
