But what if Phil doesn’t want to look for someone else? And just why does Val need to look for someone else in the first place?! ;)

And who says marriage has to be the be-all and end-all of a relationship? Or that a relationship has to ‘go somewhere’ instead of just being enjoyed for what it is?

Well, now maybe we are getting somewhere.

And where is a relationship suppose to go? Is marriage now a convenient excuse for friends of the opposite gender to see each other?

Phil and Val’s relationship is fine but I hate going 5 weeks without seeing him. After all these years, I prefer they get married, but I get Phil withdrawal after two weeks. Also, I’ve said many times I hate that Luci and Max don’t talk and Luci still nursing at times!! Joan those boobies must be untouchable by now.

it is possible that she is happy without a man in her life full time. Maybe Phil is nice to have dinner with or go to a movie, or what ever with once in a while but not full time. Lots of women are happy with out a man in her life every day.

Marriage is a joke now, if Marriage is to work it needs to be done perfectly and handled one step at a time and Val’s and Phil’s next step should be moving in together so they can see how everyday life together feels like.

A successful relationship will go where and when it is supposed to go naturally. Trying to force it will not lead to something good.

Two main points that seem to be overlooked in this week’s comments: First, i think the decision ultimately has more to do with Jan and whether she can easily write situations with Phil in the house. I get the impression she’s ready to go in that direction Second, for those telling Joan and Holly to back off, just remember how much “encouragement” Joan needed to marry Wally.

Whatever way it goes, i expect Jan will continue to do a great job. Stone Soup is one of my favorite strips.

In the book “It Seemed Like A Good Idea…” Phil proposed that they go steady. Aren’t they still?

Still, he’s a policeman, which can be a dangerous profession. She lost one husband to death, and I wonder if she considers this.

However Val feels about Phil, it takes a LOT of trust for a woman with two young daughters to bring a man into the house. Based on the storyline, the girls both like Phil and might be willing to accept him as a step-father. The stage is set here – it will be interesting to see where it goes.

One needs to remember that this is a comic where the characters Do Not Age. What happened five years ago according to our calendar may have only been five days, five months, or even five minutes ago in their lives. Jan will decide whether she wants the complication of fitting Phil into the daily strip. I’d prefer not.

I find it confusing when people talk about relationships as means to an end (marriage). Why can’t the relationship just be what it is? Why does it have to GO somewhere else or lead to something else?

They probably should break up just for Val to realize how important Phil is to her. Sometimes you gotta do something dramatic for the obtuse or ungrateful person to wake up and realize something. She might realize things and reach out to Phil – hopefully he will reciprocate and hasn’t found someone else. Even if he does, Val will still realize she no longer wants to remain single and that she is capable of loving another man besides her deceased husband.

Living together often ruins good relationships. Why can’t they just enjoy things they way they are?

What’s wrong with staying the way they are? It’s worked fine so far.
