Val: Joan, Phil is a wonderful man...but even IF I wanted to get married again, I doubt HE does. Joan: Have you ASKED him? Val: I can't do that. Joan: Why not? You're a grown woman. Ask the man what his intentions are!! Joan: Of course, he can ask you the same thing. Val: That's why I'm afraid of.

Val…sounds like you both have no intention of getting serious with each other. Nothing wrong with being just friends …serious friends, but friends nonetheless… ;)

I thought that some time ago Phil had asked her to marry him but she wasn’t sure that she wanted to get married again. He sure is patient.

Perhaps Val is scared that Phil isn’t ready for marriage when she is.

It’s a lot of uncertainty either way. Sometimes you have to take a chance to get what you want.

Maybe she’s afraid his “intentions” are intentional!

Is Val afraid that Phil cannot live up to Wally’s patient step-dad ship?

For God’s sake, &*%$ or get off the pot! Communication!! I can’t stand it when people sit around and worry and fret and stress out when all they have to do is ASK!

I think she has the best right now, living separately, dating daily and yet having their own space. Wait till Val is in her 50’s, she will really enjoy that type of personal space

A woman has to think long and hard before she marries a cop. Could she stand it if the guy didn’t come home after work, some night?
ellisaana Premium Member over 9 years ago
I agree.I just don’t understand the argument that a woman might not want to marry a cop because he might not come home some night.‘Where will I be without him.’ is so last century.Cop or accountant, whatever your significant other chooses, if you care about someone, support that person’s choice..Whether you are married, not married, living together or living apart shouldn’t make a difference.

Phil did ask her to marry him and she declined. What makes her think he wouldn’t be ready?? He has been waiting for her to be ready for years! She is so clueless. Or deliberately obtuse.
I think she simply like the status quo – comfortable friendship with benefits. Marriage changes everything. Suddenly her girls will have a step dad. Suddenly he lives in the house. Suddenly she is sharing a bedroom with him. Suddenly the Stone women share space with the lone male. Suddenly there is a male in their midst after years of hens roosting the nest. She is thinking, nah. She likes things the way it has been. Some people just do not deal with changes very well and I assume Val knows herself.
