Lol!!

Halloween with a 3-year-old…fun! ;)

we never had costumes, all we had was a mask, usualy black and after Halloween my brother would use them as Long Ranger mask the rest of the year…lol.

I only dressed in a costume once and then it was as a Hobo and putting on a bunch of old clothes was not a stretch. lol

I lived out in the (farm) country where houses were at least 1/2 mile apart. One of my friends had an older sister who would get dressed up with us, tell us scary stories, and then drive us around – we got homemade cookies, popcorn balls, apples, and BIG candy bars. Only got to go in town once with some friends there – but that was really exciting for a country kid!

Your parents let you you stay out till 1:30 and you went inside the home of someone you didn’t know? How times have changed!! Good story!

I remember going trick or treating and getting home made fudge and candy apples and rice krispie treats.

’ve told this before, but it’s my best Halloween story: My best friend and I, who were seventeen, went to the Halloween parade at Al Lang Field in St. Pete, then rode home on the city bus. We were walking home to my place, and thought we’d hit up at least one house, though it was pushing 9:00 or later. We knocked on the door, and an old woman looked up at us hulks and said, “Aren’t you a little old for this sort of thing?” We slunk away and never trick-or-treated again.

I grew up in central Ohio. October 30th was beggar’s night. Then Halloween night we soaped the windows of those who did not answer the door on beggar’s night.

I see now.

Well since we’re in story telling mode I have to tell this one on my mother who in the late 1940’s as a very young mother went out with her friends and toiletpapered every tree in the small town we were living in. I assume she was in costume as my Dad was teaching there but apparently there was no fall-out from this escapade. I have no recall of this but at the time I was an infant.

I’m sure the numbers that disappeared into old dark houses were insignificant next to the ones that succumbed to undiagnosed peanut allergies!

Still remember when my brother turned 13 on Halloween and mom let him wear one of her dresses and made him up. Before he had a chance to go out trick or treating some boys came to the door. One of them was very serious when he asked him for a date. Don’t remember how he reacted when he was turned down. (My brother turned 82 today.)

For children playing in neighborhood we moved to 6 years ago we see children play outside all the time. Either riding bikes, walking or skateboards, or basketball. Even toss football or baseball on the street.To the children have a safe trick-or-treat on Halloween night and be careful. Here in KS and further north east cool front has dropped temps.

We never had those plastic-y costumes and Mom was worried about airholes in the masks, so we didn’t use those either. 90% of our costumes were homemade, although I can’t say as we looked as good as Holly & Alix! .I was trick or treating when the candy scares came out, but my father had always checked the candy when we got home. (and don’t eat any along the way!) Torn or too-loose wrappers got discarded as did most homemade goodies, unless we could specifically ID who gave those cookies or that popcorn ball. But he made it a game, pretending to steal the best stuff, drawing out his decisions, that sort of thing..And let’s not get me started on the unfortunate move in some municipalities to move trick or treating to a Sunday afternoon! Half the fun was wandering around in the dark, possibly sans parents.

our kids play outside, walk to a friends house and play basketball or swim in summer. They can go trick or treating in groups in certain neighborhoods where parents sit outside and chat.

That would be OK if mom leaves the chocolate!
