Alarm clock would ring and cat would be right there at our bedroom door, meowing her head off. Then she wouldn’t touch the food because it was too cold. (This was in the days before microwave ovens.)
Kitty should pretend its full, and snub it.

My wife JRT will pick up the empty food dish with her mouth and move it all over the house, but not necessarily to anybody in particular.
