Holly, Holly, Holly…don’t drag your feet over a history (?) assignment. There is so much to learn out there! It will give your thirsty brain a chance to stretch and fill your learning-cells! And, who knows, you might see some of your male classmates at the library… ;)

Why?? to see if you understand it or just parrot it. Many a “smart” person in school could parrot facts and history all day long but never could learn from it.

Most of the new knowledge tends to be preceded by a lengthy review of the old knowledge to both demonstrate the competency of the author and to make sure everyone is on the same page. It can also flesh out a publication or technical report when you have nothing to report but failure.

if she had actually done the work instead of trying to wrangle someone else to do the work, she would be finished by now and have all this free time.

it’s really not about learning facts (altho it would be nice to have some stick and give the student some perspective*) it’s more about learning how to analyze facts and communicate what you’ve learned in an effective manner.

*education is (or should be) about the “big” view of the world around you – how it is now, how it came to be this way, and where it’s likely to go, so that a person can make wise choices for themselves and society ; NOT about learning simple facts and skills that help doing a job – that’s TRAINING.

Because this is about you learning skills, not making a great contribution to history or literature.

All those math problems have already been solved by other people too, you know.

    This is called “school.”

Holly I wondered that myself why rewrite an article what the author writes felt as if I buttered what the writer wrote. I know a way of learning.

I couldn’t wait to have kids & be able to say ‘because I said so’ my mother said it to me all the time, there’s no clever retort to that!
