We need to make some special rules for those Yankees like cancel their citizenship, make sure they are on the do not fly list and send them their very own hell fire missile.
If you don’t already fear Islamic extremism, your head is buried so far in the sand that you must be oxygen deficient. You may be tolerant of them but they will most assuredly not be tolerant of YOU.
As Fareed Zakaria notes today, it’s an ARAB problem in the Middle East, NOT an “Islam” problem, his column is an excellent statement of facts and history, not the “popular” misconception pushed by “the west”.
Thanks to the other posters who responded to my comments. Their comments sum up quite nicely what I do fear: intolerance is rampant. You guys want to make it a bloody religious war. The Islamist extremists goaded the West into a -ill-thought-out response and we are reaping what was sown. The deeper you dig into the trap that was set, the less you’re able to really get at the real issues, and you will have precisely what they, religious extremists, want: a bloody religious war.I tell you who has their heads in the sand: you lot who have a black/white view of the matters, an us/them, good/evil simplistic view. That’s what bugs me. And you drag me into it! That’s the really annoying part.
“And the NRA has been preaching about arming yourself in case the “government” is going to “take over”.” It’s OK to disagree but you are lying. The NRA has never advocated violent overthrow of our government.
@r2varney;The second part of your response is true, but my point remains the same. I get this news from the BBC on cable, and reading British periodicals in the library for years..I used to think of the Islamic Allah and the Judeo-Christian-Protestant God as the same, but not anymore.. In Sunday’s New York Times, I read another article about Islamic Jihad recruitment in the U.S. And, I read about this even before 9/11. Islam goes for Black and minority prisoners, recruit/convert them to the cause, with JIHAD right up front. Nothing about peace and co-existance. The NYT story focused upon two young Somalis from Minnesota, which houses the largest Somali/Muslim enclave in the U.S. These two youths were in trouble with the law all their lives, one quit High School. They followed jihadist teachings on-line, and left to fight for Allah. They were both killed. This took place over five years ago..As much as I try to remain open to the difference between extremists and “moderates”, I find doing so increasingly difficult. Recently, here in Boston, a trial wound up related to last year’s Marathon bombing. Friends of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev (the “suspected” surviving bomber brother) all over-stayed their visas. All were described by other friends as nice guys, just wanting to learn at good schools. When “friend” Azamat Tazhayakov saw Tsarnaev’s picture on TV (not yet identified), he immediately went to his apartment and took his laptop, unused fireworks (which were used to make the pressure-cooker bombs) and other evidence away. Another “friend”, Kharullo Matanov had dinner with Tsarnaev 1/2 hour after the bombing, and later that night, deleted hundreds of documents from his computer. Tsarnaev’s trial is yet to come.
The two Tsarnaev brothers were planning to bomb the 4th of July Concert on the Esplanade of the Charles River, a largely-attended yearly event. The older brother thought it would be better to test the bombs first, and casually thought of the Marathon..To me, this reads like a cell. How can one know how many others may exist?. Yes, I am also aware of the actions of U.S. agencies and corporations doing “business” in the mid-east. And, I am aware of much of the history of the area, dating back to promises made, and broken, by western powers during and after the First World War. Well, Arabs, WELCOME TO THE WORLD. You were not the first peoples cheated by greater powers, and you won’t be the last! GROW UP and GET ALONG! If it were not for all that oil under their sands, none of this might be happening.
Jeff: first:: Zakaria addressed all the issues you claim he’d ignore, so you didn’t read the article, or watch him on CNN this morning.
As I read our anti-Semitic posters here; those against Arabs, or anyone else in the tribe other than the Hebrews, who profess Christianity; I think of their sanity, peacefulness and a one word and a parenthetical change in the text of “Onward Christian Soldiers”. “Onward Christian soldiers marching (others’ sons and daughters) OFF to war, with the cross of Jesus, going on before”.
I’ve also read Zakaria’s books, and find them well written, intelligent, insightful, and something American’s don’t understand, factual and fair to the facts, whatever they might be.
