Stone Soup by Jan Eliot Holly: I've asked everyone I know to explain the meaning of life, but no one seems to be able to. Alix: What about Uncle Wally? He has answers for everything. Holly: He said something about LIFE IS A RIVER...and then all I heard was WAH WWAH WAHHH... Alix: Apparently life is a river accompanied by trombone. Holly: It's a simple question! Why can't I get a simple answer?? Biscuit: OWOOOOOO

The answer is simple, it’s 42. The question, however, is a bit tricker.

Life has no meaning. Its purpose is its perpetuation. Feel free to reproduce or not. But do understand most other life does not care about you or your offspring.

It doesn’t mean anything, it just is. Autumn leaves, birds flying, the river of procreation, the sound of music… Excuse me for waxing.

I have an answer, but it’s not suitable for a family comic strip.

Wally probably is not allowed to play his trombone at home, so this is heaven for him: A boat, a lake, and a trombone is a getaway for him even if his son and his nieces are drifting along too.

I just love Wally. He’s my favorite character! Also to bhoidas you can stop your religious preaching. One or two sentences is fine, but ten paragraphs?? To Alan Watkins, I agree, life just is. It’s going to work everyday, taking care of family and pets, and paying the bills. Later it’s taking it easy filled with hobbies you didn’t otherwise have time for.

When my grandson was around seven, we were at a Harvestfest celebration in Glenbeulah, WI, sitting under a tent and listening to a little oom-pah group playing while we ate ice cream. My grandson was sitting in front of me. Suddenly he yelled out, “Why doesn’t anybody in the whole universe know the meaning of life?!”
Maybe it has something to do with brass instruments.

The existentialist answer is that everyone gets to define the meaning of their own lives by the way they live them. In short, life is what you make of it.

According to my dad, the purpose of life is to do as much good and as little harm as possible, and have fun doing it.
