None of the comments attributed to President Obama were untrue at the time they were made. But — as you neocons keep conveniently forgetting — America was forbidden to leave more than a skeleton presence in Iraq by the terms of the agreement that Dubya signed with Iraq. President Obama tried to renegotiate this, but could not get the protection he wanted for U.S. troops.
However, the boast “Mission Accomplished” was always a lie.
“They got rid of Saddam.”Their mistake was being so focused on old grevences, they didn’t care about the consequences that would come with taking Saddam out. George H.W. Bush took a lot of heat for not invading Iraq and became known as a wimp for it. Little did we know that he was correct in not invading.

It’s interesting that the discussion on lies about WMDs in Iraq overlooks the fact that the “intelligence agencies” fed the Congress on orders from the administration stuff that PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE, non-classified, proved the intelligence reports were either plainly stupid and inaccurate, or outright lies. William Rivers Pitt and Scott Ritter (the INSPECTOR FOR THE U.S.) published the truth in 2002, long before Congress “bought it”, and yes, it is noteworthy that only 41% of Democrats voted for the resolution authorizing force, and those that DID vote for it, were indeed playing political, not national security, games. And YES it was disgusting, and they shouldn’t get to stay elected.
“It was the Bush admin that insisted on making a member of a religious minority the president of Iraq. Of course the majority want to overthrow him.”Actually, the Shiites are over 60% of the population, not a minority. Saddam gave preferential treatment to Sunnis, though a few Shia were given important roles in his regime. Any who dared to demand a real voice in government were met with brutality. It was fairly predictable that once Saddam was gone, the majority would look to exclude the Sunnis from the gravy train fed by oil & American $$$. It was also fairly predictable that the Sunnis would take violent exception & see a Shia regime as a mortal threat.

Turn off your Faux news and wake up and smell the politics.

@TedLind: Bush did solve the problem. Then Obama came and set us back 15 years by pulling out based on a time line rather than common sense.

Mechanic Boy: Maybe see if the 111 Democrat Members if Congress that voted for the war in Iraq agree with you?

He definitely snatched the defeat from the jaws of victory. Par (here is the score he may not be familiar with) for the course.

A discussion is not a copy and paste of 500 words especially a speech by a politician. Please be courteous and keep comments brief. Thanks, ML
