Considering all the horrible things that go into our processed food, powdered sand (by any name) is probably the least of our worries. But I don’t think I’d be impressed by the ‘fresh taste’ of clam chowder that had sand added to it. Guess you need to have cartoon taste buds.
An old Archie comic had a similar theme. It concerned the difference between hot dogs on the beach vs hot dog at the Lodge’s pool. Sand was the missing ingrediant. Why do I remember that? We’re talking around 40 years ago!

Yup, that’s the freshness alright! Stopped collecting and cooking my own long ago for that very reason! (And grind my teeth enough already)

So far,in my single guy’s kitchen, I haven’t created a cloud of spices. A handful of diced fresh garlic is as close as I get to a cloud. :-)
