Here on the east coast of South Africa we are enjoying the first of our spring rains. Thr frogs were very vocal for most of the night and then a lone mosquito came in for a snack, must have been one that the frogs missed. We had a thunder storm at about 05:30 this morning and it’s 17 Celcius at the moment. On Tuesday it was 32 Celcius because we had a north-westerly wind which generally brings the rain. Our winters here in Kwa-Zulu Natal are aften warmer than our spring; I think this is due to the warm Mozambique ocean current.
Yes. Every year a break for Jan and right on time, in the comment section the surly reader. Just don’t look at the strip this week if you hate it that much.
I noticed that in past years, these have read like “Gotta love August…”, the current sequence has said “We’ll always love August…” That sounds to me like Jan is thinking of bringing this strip to an end—wrapping things up. I hope that is not the case, but that is the sense I am getting.
This episode just kindled a memory for me: Back in the day, on July 4th our circle of friends would gather at a lakeside lot where one of them had parents with a trailer or on the lot. Once we were watching neighbors on the next lot docking their rowboat. Unfortunately, one corner of the boat’s stern had dipped below the water level, and the boat was filling up. A couple of young women were frantically bailing out the water, while the lake kept right up with their bailing by obeying the laws of physics, and pouring right back in. We were standing there, trying to keep from laughing in the neighbors’ faces.
Im afraid august here hasnt been so good. First a BIG forest fire up north and now floodings…http://www.aftonbladet.se/nyheter/article19400970.ab(not my town, but only a couple of hours away)

Notice there aren’t any mosquitoes…that’s because there are many different types of dragonflies flying about that eat mosquito larvae… ;)

With all the fuss about the wedding, I thought (was hopping) that we’d avoid the “Love August” this year. What a disappointment.

I’m just amazed that Alix isn’t snorkeling in the lake.

Some of my best memories with my family, before our kids were grown, are those August summer at a cottage on a lake in Michigan.

Growing up, 2 weeks in August every year at Lake George, NY. Beautiful, wonderful and fun.

I love the “love august” arc. It reminds me of how life could be if it was what it actually is.

My buddy launching his boat in the water, forgetting to put in the drain plug. Loved the expression on his face. :-)

Does anyone else find it strange that Hollie is the one checking the lake instead of Alix?

Is Jan Elliot retiring “Stone Soup.” This week’s series sound awfully like a farewell.

I like August because it is part of summer; however, I really don’t like August because it is prime time for forest fires… ;)
