In today’s paper, Peanuts showed Linus & Lucy planting a tree and no sooner had they finished than Charlie Brown’s kite was in it.

Yep, that kite eating tree must look exactly like that after all those years and all those kties! Such fun – great tree!

I love this comic because the kids accurately represent modern-day kids. Anybody know how old the kids are and what their names are?

comics4brown, kite-eating trees only look like this early in the season. This one hasn’t even begun chewing yet, much less digestion. It’s a stomach-turning process to witness, particularly the “munch-munch-munch” noises that’ll haunt you for days…

@ Celecca: Yeah, I really love it when a current new comic strip sincs up with one that’s 30-40 years old.

So do I, Garey Mckee. It’s a fortuitous reminder of the long and rich traditions of this great American art form, as one generation of artists builds upon, and adds to, the body of fantastic cartooning done by preceeding generations. Too often people think that the only art that needs to be considered is that which is newest.

Those same people probably never watch movies that are more than 20 years old, or are ignorant and unappreciative of any music that was popular before they were teenagers.

Doctor Toon, that very conversation to which you refer was what made me curious about this strip. I am so glad I followed through with that impulse.

The artwork today is simply beautiful! I’m kind of reminded of a Picasso painting… but I think I prefer this to his style.

How is it such a beautifully done comic such as this gets cut from a newspaper..? My mind BOGGLES!

As usual, brilliant, brilliant stuff. Richard Thompson is easily the best comic strip artist in the business – finally, a worth heir to Bill Watterson.

@R_Noonan; Perhaps the same neighborhood, maybe even the same block. But charlie Brown has either grown up, and now one of his kids is feeding the kite-eating tree; or he moved away and it’s an entirely new family.

Either way, this was a great toon of the day!
