Poison ivy, wolves, ticks carrying Lyme Disease, lightning, colds/flu, gravity, etc. Who could ever believe that this world was INTENDED to be safe? I think it’s meant to be a challenge.
The city should just grit its teeth and deal with each injury or wrongful-death lawsuit as it comes up, rather than try to address safety issues proactively. Pfft.
Playgrounds are a convenient place to have fun, but deprived of that kids will still find ways to have fun. Climb trees, race around in shopping carts, play baseball in the street, and other things that will be both dangerous and potentially cause property damage.
We can all agree that there is never going to be a public place that is 100% safe, but anything open to the public does have a greater responsibility to repair its potholes, so to speak. If you invite the public to a property, then, you are responsible for making certain that you aren’t negligent about their safety (and I’m no attorney; I’m what’s called a ‘planner’.)
So, safety first, Parks people! Make sure when you put up a sign telling kids why their parks equipment is gone, the sign is kid-proofed! All Ruthie did was lightly tap on the signpost…
That is one reason why our space program has stalled. Many are so afraid someone will get hurt or die. However, you ask an astronaut and he knows and accepts the risk. The pussies of the world are trying to make this world so safe, it will be dull..
