Yes & no. A tatoo can be seen immediately and if the dog (or cat) is lost, the finder can phone a vet or tatoo centre straight away. Not every finder will or can take a lost animal to the vet. So: both!
Our dog never realised that one could see inside the house through the window. The moment the door slammed on our backs she was jumping on the couch. The moment she heard the car she was jumping down, leaving a nice warm spot. But as long as she wasn’t on the couch when we were in the house we pretended not to know.

Jeesh! After the first three panels I should hope the poor thing gets to sleep on the couch….or better still….in bed with his owner.
