The Infield Fly Rule is easy: it is just meant to prevent the fielding team from taking advantage of a pop-up fly when there are runners on base. By letting the ball drop – they can get 1 or 2 maybe 3 outs as the tagged-up runners are forced to run when the ball hits the ground. Instead, they are forced to accept the single out from a easy pop-up fly.

    Simple!

Now-a-days, a pop-up is something quite different…. wish the infield fly rule applied to computers…?
