I can really empaphise with Evie in this story-line. When you are young you think that telling your parents that you want to get married is difficult. However, when you have adult children and you are marrying for the second time it is MUCH harder telling your children. We both have children from a first marriage; they took it well fortunately. We didn’t give them much time to think about it; we only decided about 3 or 4 weeks earlier and then just took the plunge. Much like Evie and Arnold actually.

Well, you two wouldn’t have been able to drop everything and fly out to SA anyway as it was a spur-of-the-moment sort of decision (sort of like running away to Las Vegas). Anyhow, you both can throw a party in your Mom’s honor. Who knows, Arnold just might show up, too! ;)

They could always have a formal ceremony with everyone involved, assuming, that Arnold ever came back to meet the family.

I am not sure what Val’s concern is. I have already stated that I am not really crazy about the story line, but is Val upset because she is losing a babysitter? Does she think Arnold married Fay for her money? I can understand stunned but there seems to be something else.

Go roll your eyes about something else, lady. Your Mother is an adult (as, supposedly, you are).

i doubt Arnold gives two shakes of a lambs rear about money. He builds houses in other countries for fun. Jan has never stated if hes rich or not but if hes doing that stuff all year then hes probably loaded. Further more he probably just wanted the company of Evie and got used to her.

Oh Val… it’s always about you and your needs isn’t it? No more round the clock live in cook and babysitter. Could you ever consider your mother’s concerns and interests? You too have an opportunity to get married. Why don’t you go for it instead of criticizing your mom and her life? She does not owe you anything that she isn’t already giving.

Thanks to all for the references to past strips, regarding the family’s meeting (or not meeting) Arnold before. My question is, I can’t really tell if Val and Phil actually meet Arnold (on dinner date with Evie) at the restauant – so did they meet (February 23 and 24, 2007 strips)? On top of this, Arnold was in town! I thought he was always on some project overseas.

Why won’t they be calling Arnold “dad?” Is there something we should know about Arnold that makes him undesirable? I have always liked him myself!

Why can’t anyone credit that Val might be just going to miss the dickens out of her mom!? She doesn’t have a dad, her husband died young, and then her mother has been stability emotionally for years… I’d be afraid to see her move away altogether, and she might.
