Joan: Did Mom say WHEN she's coming home?
Val: No...I imagine she'll just SHOW UP. She loves surprises.
Gramma Evie: Marry you?! And THEN what?
Arnold: Whatever we want.
Uh, Arnold…you’ve got to be More Specific…I’m not so sure Evie wants to be footloose and fancy free at her age like she probably was in her “hippie” days. Like I said yesterday, she needs a permanent “docking station” so she can visit her grandchildren on a regular basis. Which means she won’t be wandering 100% of the time. I am not so sure that you ever had a family in your past because if you did, you would understand Evie’s hesitation. I still don’t know if I should say, “Go for it,” or advise Evie to make her (valid) excuses and keep things the way they are… ;)
yeah, nice cups. I can hardly wait to see how this will be resolved/continued. I can happily expect the resolution won’t be trite (money, honey indeed).
The problem with many marriages is that they DON’T put each other first. She wouldn’t be happy if he doesn’t put her first, why should he be happy if she doesn’t?
Whic translated means “anything that I want to do.” I don’t think that he has any understanding of Evie wanting to spend time with her family, since it seems that he doesn’t have any of his own…
This is the comics, Arnold is probably a secret millionaire who has decided to do good without seeking publicity.Or, he could have nothing When Evie goes to see him, does she pay her own airfare or does he arrange the ticket?
The marriage proposal was sweet, Evie, but don’t marry him. He has no idea what having a family is about. Eventually he will resent that you want to hold up an adventure to go and visit your family, and that he has to go with you or that he gets left behind. Just stay friends and unattached – keep it simple.
Time for a nuptial contract. Edie can write in family visits, Arnold can write in traveling the world to build houses. Can Arnold find a solicitor in Cape Town?
Perhaps it’s Evie who hasn’t wanted to mix the two. She has a life with family. She has a life with Arnold. Marriage means he’d be part of a life she has without him.

To him. life is pie in the sky. To her, family is real, obligations are real, life is real.

I like the sisters’ cups.
Evie isn’t averse to marriage, it seems – I hope she’ll go for it.

Gramma’s not saying no! :O

Perhaps Arnold should visit Evie’s family to see what he’s getting himself into. If he marries Evie, he marries into the whole family.

I kept waiting for a joke about the sisters being “in their cups”. Ah well, it’ll be a nice day anyway. :-)
