Stone Soup by Jan Eliot Val: Warm sun...wind in the trees...it's so PEACEFUL. Alix: MOM! I need a knife! There's a whale with fishing net wrapped around its tail! Val: OK, but don't poke a hole in your pool! Holly: Why do you ENCOURAGE her?? Val: Why not? I LOVE her vivid imagination. SPLOOSH Holly: Emphasis on VIVID. Alix: WOW! That's one happy whale!

Be grateful, Alix didin’t injure herself while running (in panic) with that knife.

Alix, I love how vivid your imagination is especially with your pool and I ESPECIALLY love it when you unintentionally get your mom and sister drenched in the process! xD

UTube has a bit on divers/whale watchers cutting loose a whale caught in a net. After they got it loose, the Whale put on a series of spectacular jumps (for joy, relief?) before swimming away.

My youngest son was like that. I’d go into the dining room and find a note that said, “Mom, don’t worry about me, I’ve gone west to make my fortune.” He was 7.

Lio has pool adventures too in his comic. I’ve always thought Alix and Lio would get along well. :)

Imaginary whales don’t get their rescuers hair wet.

I think Val gave her a plastic one from the dollar store. They can hardly cut melted butter.

I doubt Alix would call it the whales tail. She’d say fluke. If any 7 year old knows the difference it’s her.
