Hooray for Ryan! He remembered Father’s Day! (Not all of the old standbys did.)And Buni got it right.

The way to a Dadi’s heart is through his stomach. Growing up, we always had a barbecue on Father’s Day—and he didn’t have to cook it.

For world-class roast sweetcorn, don’t husk the ears. Leave them in their natural state (fresh picked, please!) , and put the oven as hot as it will possibly go (yes, I mean about 500 degrees F or whatever your top setting is.) Put the ears, still in their husks, in the heated oven for 20 minutes. It will steam-roast to perfection.Have paper sacks or trashbags at the table, and each eater husks their own into the bags. Just a drizzle of olive oil or butter, and salt, and you have ambrosia. Angels sing softly in the distance.

Roast at least 3 ears per person, but always more than you think you will need. More than once when I’ve made this, we have ignored the other foods on the table and just eaten corn.

Yesterday was a good Father’s day, combined it with one of hubby’s niece’s birthdays at mother-in-laws, hubby’s 2 brothers were there with their wives and worked together building a new shed for their stepdad. We had a nice brunch for niece (homemade egg and ham and cheese muffins, lots of fruit and birthday cake) and then had rotisseried roast beef for dinner with mashed potatoes, caesar salad, and another cake for dessert.

You can of course also roast ears in the husk on the BBQ. We did so many (large family) that it was faster and easier in the oven—that was way before microwaves.

Good to see Dadi finally pleased by Buni. Nothing like a big steak to put a smile on a guy’s face1

My Dadi went to heaven 31 years ago. I miss him everyday! Treasure your parents! You don’t know how long you’ll have them!!
