    Is it easy to find a CFL that will work with timers?Last one I used smoked and stunk (or is that stank?).

    @Pelican47:We’ve used standard CFLs with our timers, never with a problem. They should act the same as any light bulb or device. The timer is merely a switch which turns on and off the power at a pre-set moment. If you tried to use a CFL on a DIMMER switch, that would not work. There are now CFLs which are designed to work with dimmer switches, but you have to read the label to identify them. Some of the newer LED lights are also designed to work with dimmers. We have some of those, and they work very well.

    so just how do you save the planet by replacing a enviromentally safe light bulb with one that contains toxic mercury

    Actually LEDs are the way to go. Trouble is, for a cartoon, they can’t really be depicted in an obvious way.
