I had friends using VA going back to ‘69. I didn’t file until ’95, and got signed up in only 10 months, while many were waiting four years. Which, interestingly, that first decision only granted for one of seven disabling conditions, service connected; it took four more years of appeals to the two more of those conditions recognized. But another interestingly; while VA never recognized by hearing loss, recorded, then records destroyed by the Army, I do now have VA providing my aids as I was finally identified as permanently and totally disabled.

Which, there ARE different strokes for different folks in the system, based on eight classifications of veteran for health care, from totally disabled at 100 % down to getting care based on economic need for non-service connected vets who have no other “qualifications”.

The problems are decades old in many areas, geographic and political, but the simple fact based on my personal experiences, and those of friends, including one in permanent domiciliary care due to NON- service connected TBI from a car accident, VA has mostly tried their best, to do their best for us. Which, part of Congress’ deficiency has long been underfunding, or more recently, micro-managing, the agency through the budget, and restrictions on where funds can be applied, a situation the public, and most in the press, either aren’t aware of, or don’t WANT the public aware of!

@Jeff…..“stop having wars”???How much healthcare, VA or other, do you think we would have if we don’t stop the planned takeover of our government by either infiltration and gained political power or by the Sword of Islam?-Tell us how many of the 57 Islam nations have healthcare or Rights for all citizens? How many of them allow “choice” or protection for girls and women?-Unfortunately, with aggressive religions, that used the Sword and/or takeover to gain 57 governments for Islam, if Free People want to remain Free, Wars are necessary. At least until the 2nd Coming of Jesus Christ to take over all governments and to rule in true peace, with true justice.

Republicans/Fox “news” viewers were never concerned about veterans’ care when Bush was in the White House.=Now, united in their hatred of Obama, they really, really, really want to expose the problems. They hope to make them worse before the next elections — to show how patriotic they are.

Climate change, not Islam, represents the greatest threat to world peace and security in the coming years, as numerous Pentagon and associated reports have shown. Therefore an idiot House member from West Virginia has inserted a rider in the Defense Appropriations Bill, to forbid the military from spending any funds on studying, or doing anything to address this threat. These insertions are how House Republicans have long been giving veterans the shaft, hidden deep inside massive spending documents, so their poison pills will be swallowed, unbeknown to the voters, or vets.

I haven’t had a “happy” Memorial Day since 1966 when I began losing close friends to an idiot war. How sad that we have been engaged in wars for NOTHING now for the longest continuous period in our history, and yes BUSH DID IT!

Remember those we’ve lost, and please, do not be “happy” about it. Instead vow that the con be gone, and we never fall for such tripe again.

churchie: come back when you can keep things straight, which means, never. I was still in the Army when MLK was assassinated, and was at the Watts riots helping my grand-uncle in 65, not after King started the whole incident and should have been shot when choking out a sheriff’s deputy. Never did Everest, but did do the other things, but it was nuclear policy with folks who’d worked at Los Alamos, never been on site, but have driven by.

Great to know I have such a dedicated stalker, who should now be afraid to go to his local movie theater as pistols over popcorn are the neighborhood, okay all of Florida, seems to think, safety standard.
