Gramma Evie: Oh boy. A road trip in South Africa. This should be amazing. What's our route? Arnold: Through the Little Karoo, then Mossel Bay, Knysna, Tsitsikamma National Park, past the ostrich farms... Arnold: Sound fun? Gramma Evie: You had me at Little Karoo.

Poor Alix is Really going to be envious of Evie’s road-trip. Hopefully, Evie will send pictures of all the interesting wildlife so Alix can see it. Sometimes, Alix, you have to wait until adulthood to do things you can’t now… ;)

Arnold and Evie will be travelling through some of South Africa’s prime beauty spots. The USA has some really beautful countryside as well. I’ve never been to the US but I have seen a lot of pictures. Fortunately now with the internet we can visit just about every spot on the planet.

JoanHelen: I’ve really enjoyed your comments and information on the South Africa arc. If you ever do get to the U.S., make sure Grand Canyon, south rim, is on the list. No pictures can prepare you for it.

Apart from the fact that two tourists driving through South Africa alone… well, let’s just say that’s NOT a good idea… (even South Africans don’t do road trips like that) but why go so far to see elephants? They’re all over the place. In Zimbabwe we saw one in the middle of a town in someone’s back garden – and yes, it was a wild one, and yes, the houseowners were less than thrilled (Shoo! Get off my lawn!)

Gokie5: I was there about Nov 1-2. Bright sun from behind lighting up the north wall, which is about 900-1000 ft higher and had all the colors lit up.

I could be off base, but I have a sneaky suspicion that he had her long before “Little Karoo”.

Apparently South Africans drive on the left side of the road while the driver sits on the right side of the car, like New Zealanders do. Scots and East Asians drive this way, too.

I’ve just watched the video of the elephants charging in the Kruger Park. Incredibly stupid tourist was right out of his vehicle filming. The first thing that every tourist is told upon entering the park is not to leave your vehicle whilst in the reserve. There are many camps where you can wander around and watch the game from secure look-out posts but to get of your vehicle is really crazy. Sadly it is amazing how many people ignore this rule.
