Alix: How long is Gramma going to STAY in South Africa?
Val: Who knows?
Val: Gramma likes her freedom. She plans to enjoy her final years to the MAX.
Alix: FINAL YEARS?!
Val: You know...the next 30 or 40.
Alix: At least!
Alix, people your Grammy’s age Are living their final years…but most are getting the best out of their circumstances and seem to be happy enough! Sometimes the Golden Years can be gold… ;)
I agree, and I think she also has the compassion to appreciate the volunteer work of building houses for those who need the help. This might be a good opportunity to describe the process, showing that the beneficiaries of Habitat for Humanity are not getting a handout, but a hand up.
Even most of my grandkids are in or finished with college and I hope to have another 25 healthy years (to pass 100) without any long term illness or medication. That’s why I’m moving to a community with many clubs and activities that mostly come with a single annual fee (and to be closer to my new man, who already enjoys many of those). I was lucky to find someone who shares so many interests with me. I expect to be just as lucky with the perfect new house (and selling this one).
The problem is that Alix probably isn’t old enough to fly by herself; and top that off with a 3 person household and one income… flights aren’t that cheap.
I just hope my own hubby lives to be more older if he watch his eating. He does have a stent in heart.Alix your grandma is going to live a long time and you both will have fun.
Thanks, Night and dzw! And about Edie and all of us seniors. We may be able to enjoy our “final” years, but the problems arise that we have no idea just how long anything may last. I have always been of the mindset of an Auntie Mame though (as I was told back at my oldest son’s wedding by his bride’s mom) and I will enjoy it all as long as I can.
The next hobby we plan to share is brewing some craft beers. He has done it far in the past and my new interest in the various dark beers has decided him to renew that skill. I just bought a few at my Sprouts in the groceries today (and sampled 2 with lunch).

Who’s paying for the trip? Val certainly doesn’t have the income to be able to provide the financing. Oh, you’re offering? That’s different.
