It’s because all the remotes (and associated electronics) are made in China by people who’s understanding of American English is inhibited by the way their brains work having grown up speaking Mandarin.
It would be easier if we were back to turning a knob on the tv instead of pushing buttons on a remote. Yeah less channels, but then that would mean less idiocy that’s being shown now.
