What I’ve never understood is why people are willing to wear glasses, which sit right on the front of their faces, but won’t use a hearing aid, which generally can’t be seen. Saying “Huh” all the time is more annoying than squinting.

With you on that. Wife of over 40 years has a hearing problem and hardly ever wears her aid.

These posts remind me of an incident of which I heard decades ago where an audio engineer at a TV station showed up for work with hearing aids, at which point station management took him aside and tried to move him gently out of his position into another. He replied, “Oh, is it because I have these things in my ears that improve my hearing? Or perhaps we should consider replacing all our cameramen and video engineers who wear glasses.” He kept his job.

If wearing glasses made people look old, I was looking old when I was in the third grade when I started wearing them. These days you can get glasses that look nearly invisible so it’s easier for people to see your face instead.

Third grade is since when glasses have been part of my self image. WAS surprised yesterday when a churchmate not much older than me asked me to speak up because she’d left her hearing aid at home.

Without her glasses, she can’t see her gray hair and wrinkles.

My mother, who is almost 78, has several pairs of reading glasses of various strengths. She only uses them when necessary.
