After last week, better change Papi’s bubble to read “Gotta make sure Ichiro doesn’t catch it first”. Twice as a Yankee since last September and even more back in Seattle!

Wonder how Papi’s time circling the bases compares to that of the crippled Kirk Gibson in 1988.

used to be, back when I listened to the Tigers on the radio, that the games were a whole lot shorter than they are now. So, what happened, why are the games so much longer now?

Seems like he picked up some habits from his former team mate Manny (Manny Who?)

Re yesterday: Pineda got 10 games. Sounds familiar. When I posted that a pitcher got 10 games and a batter got 10 games for such egregious breaking of the rules, someone posted that the pitcher’s penalty was in ‘87, so somehow that made it irrelevant. Well the batter’s was in ‘74. I predict if a batter corks his bat so egregiously, he’ll get 10 games as well. Batters and pitchers are treated the same. But why would Pineda wear pine tar on the mound two games in a row? Because his name is PINEda, his agent got him an endorsement deal with the pine tar manufacturer, but only if he wore it on the field. Since MLB has strict rules about uniforms, he had to wear it on his skin to be seen.

I remember back in the day a very good pitcher with a reputation for getting the ball, and throwing the pitch, without a lot of stalling and extra motion. Games were always under 2 hours. Attendance was higher on games where he pitched. On the other hand, maybe concession sales were lower…
