True, true, Emlyn. We’ve had a number of dogs and most of them have or had a good-night routine that is all their own, including demanding that we accompany them to retire. Very endearing.
To @Larsonian – thank you for your kind reply to my comment yesterday and the good advice. Yes, we’ll be adopting again soon. I’ve been torn between waiting until my heart heals a bit more or using a new dog to help my heart heal; you’re probably right that the latter would be the best option.

When I first got the dog shown here as my avatar, she wouldn’t get in her crate for the night without a goodnight hug first.
