Name change suggestion…“Washington White Guys” Quite aliterative. I live in a college town where the team is called ‘The Chippewas’….with the blessing of the local tribe, by the way.
So if an Indian shows up at your door with a paper saying the land belongs to him due to what happened to his great-great grandfather, you will move out immediately?
Actually, we Indian people care very much about this issue. To us, sport teams being named things like “Redskins” is not a matter of “political correctness” but of racism and genocide.
According to Smithsonian historian Ives Goddard, early historical records indicate that “Redskin” was used as a self-identifier by Native Americans to differentiate between the two races. Goddard found that the first use of the word “redskin” came in 1769, in negotiations between the Piankashaws and Col. John Wilkins. Throughout the 1800s, the word was frequently used by Native Americans as they negotiated with the French and later the Americans
“When people are engaged in something they are not proud of, they do not welcome witnesses. In fact, they come to believe the witness causes the trouble.”
Ahh- Columbus- Didn’t know where he was going- Didn’t know where he was when he got there- and Didn’t know where he’d been when he got back, and ALL on borrowed money. Lousy sailor, but a pretty good politician.

I love the “Blame the victim” tone that abounds here.
