In the real world the boss would take all the compliments, act like they were going to give you a raise or promote you, lead you on but never actually do any of it. There would always be a reason why it wasn’t happening with the perception that its just right there within reach, if you just do XYZ. When you do achieve XYZ something will have come up to prevent it, but now there is another within reach XYZ, process repeats indefinitely.
