I always find it fascinating that immigrants can come to this country with nothing and within a generation be prosperous, but native born, high school dropouts with no skills other than smoking weed and making babies seem to require handouts generation after generation.
So maybe you want to go back to slavery. If “employers” don’t have to pay “employees” at all they can maximize profits.
If employers could kill workers when they were no longer able to work they could increase profits by not having to pay their share of Social Security. Slavery again.
Nothing like going back to the 18th century to make employers happy.
Are you saying my sister (born in the United States) did not work her fingers to the bone and work ridiculously long hours just because she was not an immigrant?
Not all businesses built by long hours were started and built by immigrants.
Minimum wage is a “cheap” issue for Democrats. With it they can appear to be “for the working man” without actually doing anything. Simple way to appease the ignorant..A couple of weeks ago I watched a documentary on WW2 and the GI Bill how the soldiers turned civilians took advantage of it and ushered a new era of prosperity for this country. These soldiers adjusted themselves to be beyond “minimum wage”. .Perhaps a better educated populace with easier access to schooling. Then again, that would be much more difficult to accomplish then a minimum wage increase.
^While education is the key to advancement, for individuals and society, what happens to those unable to get the education, or WITH the education, find their field overcrowded with fewer jobs than “qualified” job seekers?
It’s also a case that in general, those at the top who “got theirs”, don’t want to be pushed out of their place. It’s also true despite the claims, that a majority of those 1% actually inherited their wealth, and position, or both. Forbes, Kennedy, Bush, Walton, far more typical than the Jobs etc who just came up with that better mousetrap.
I agree Ruff. They’re in the same place as te American young people willing to work in farming fields and orchards for X dollars a bushel harvested.Work ethic is learned most of the time and we too often celebrate those taking the paths of least resistance.Respectfully,C.
