Alix: If we were adults right now, what would our jobs be? Holly: Well... Holly: I think I'd like to be a CONSULTANT. They make a lot of money, only work when they want, and spend most of their time on the phone. Alix: Wow. That's a perfect fit for you!! Holly: And you - ? Something that involves snakes, perhaps?

The word you’re looking for, Holly in the final panel, is herpetologist.

I like how they’re hanging out and getting along. A nice sister moment. :)

This is a fun conversation to “listen” to! Love Holly’s version of what a consultant does… I’m sure we’ll hear from a real consultant sometime today on how true it really is (or not).

Consultants only work when they want to, but they also only get paid when they work.
I deal with city planning consultants all the time. They make good money, but they have to work 70+ hours a week to do so and are treated like slaves. Even the project managers are slaves to their clients, and if you “only work when you want to,” good luck getting a reference letter from them for your next job proposal.
I don’t live to work, I work to live. I’ll keep my middling-pay manager job with a local govt. working ONLY 8-5 and good benefits over that any day.

Holly could take over on “Working Daze” when Rita finally moves up or out.

Most children don’t! And by children, I mean through their mid-20s, in many cases!

A “Museum Collections Manager” would be an even better fit for Alix. She gets to play with all the creepy-crawlies. (A slightly older version of Alix took over from me when I retired.)

If the consultants are making the recommendations instead of helping the clients find the solutions that they can live with, then the consultant is not doing their job. And that can be a lot of hard work, Holly.

I love this story line. The companionable interacting between the two sisters is adorable. Much better than the usual fighting and the not understanding each other.

Actually “herpetiles.”

A consultant is someone who — when you ask them the time — borrows your watch, tells you the time, and then walks off with the watch.

Nice to see you girls getting along…but, watch out, adulthood is not as fun as you think it is…dream-on, though! ;)
