Quite a coincidence, earlier today our cat, ok, the cat that belongs to my wife and kids, was scratching the area where we sit on the couch. I went in, asked the cat what she was doing, and she went and stood by her food bowl.
Rather than rewarding her behavior by feeding her, my unshod foot met her face. She ran down to the basement until my wife got home. Like an idiot I told my wife about it, and i’m the one who got in trouble. I don’t hate cats, and I felt bad about the cat’s face meeting my foot, I just understand dogs way more than I do cats.

“Nice little couch you have here. It would be a shame of something were to happen to it.” (Although I’m pretty sure cat’s don’t use subjunctive.)
