You forgot that dogs are telepathic — you were thinking too loudly! (My sister’s dogs used to get excited 5 minutes before “Daddy” got home from work, and there’s no way they could have heard his car coming that far down the highway!!)

Maybe fear of the vet is not so much the treatment, after all it is attention, but rather the strong antiseptic smell they dislike.
I can smell metal, steel and others are different.
