We are going to find out in short order what the societal and medical effects of recreational and “medical” marijuana are and my prediction is that it won’t be good.

Another theme that will have the “conservative blue noses” bent out of shape touting the “reefer madness” mythology. Hmm, while I do have some reservations about “recreational use”, it IS “interesting” that it’s all those conservatives who tout their support for “individual rights and freedom” that are most against using a product that safer than either tobacco or alcohol. (Yes, if you smoke a brick a day, you may actually run the risk of developing diseases common to tobacco use, but 99.9% of even “recreational” users will never reach the consumption levels of a tobacco smoker. Plus, tobacco does NOT have the PROVEN medical benefits of marijuana, and the natural product and the synergists in that product are far more effective than synthesized THC.)

Denis is right on the employment / use issue David. No commercial carrier is going to allow their drivers, pilots, or crew to use marijuana or not be tested for use. They will do it. So will many other employers. Also expect employment contracts to start absolving the employer of any responsibility for use in violation of company policy..The simplest reason for this is that unlike alcohol THC in marijuana stays in the blood stream for up to 30 days. Imagine a scenario where a commercial airline pilot smokes some on a Friday and his plane crashes on Monday. It won’t matter if he wasn’t “high” at the time. All that will matter is THC was found in his system and the lawyers for the passengers WILL make the argument he was impaired and it will be hard to fight that claim. Therefore, ANY use would be considered unacceptable simply because ANY use would result in THC being present for a unreasonably long time in the blood stream.Alcohol metabolizes fast enough that someone who drinks on Friday is sober Monday and there is no evidence of impairment. That is the difference and that is GOING to be a HUGE problem for employers with recreational marijuana being legal.

^David: most of my medications for fibromyalgia preclude my passing a flight physical for even civil aviation. Then there’s also my blood pressure med that also is a ’"fail" on flight physicals! (because it affects memory and thought process, NOT just that it lowers BP.)

About the Dutch, the laws prohibiting foreigners from buying were a subject of protest in response to what was believed as an overreach of eurozone authority (other member countries were unhappy about the large amount of drugs being mulled across borders, which due to being a maritime country, as well as connections into France and Germany made it an ideal location.

Liked “Annie’s Song” a little better, but spent decades living the “Rocky Mountain High”, in the Rockies, Sierra Nevada, Cascades, and other ranges, “allergic” to cities and “city life”.

But Churchie, you man GHW and others also used teleprompters??? : – ))

“There is a difference between using prompters and being overly-reliant on one”How is Obama acting overly-reliant on teleprompters. How is his use any different than any other President’s?
