When I am left on hold for more than five minutes, I ask the person who finally answers if they are hiring service reps. “I used to work at the phone company and Big Bank and you’re obviously short-handed.” I’m not nasty – having been a rep, I know the poor soul who answered the phone is only there to take the guff handed out by other people, but I make it know the customer (this one, anyway) isn’t happy.
And you should hear what I have to say about those d—-d “if you need such and such, press 1” arrangements.
A lot of people still have land lines; I have both land and cell. ;-)On a side note, Dani, what you’re referring to in the last part of your post is known in the trade as “voice mail hell”. Even if the end result is supposed to be a live support rep or sales rep…. 1 if by land, 2 if by sea ;-)

I do not call it ‘being on hold’: I call it ‘they put me on “ignore”’.
