With everyone up all night on New Year’s Eve partying the idea is that the next morning everyone would be too hung over to do much work anyway. So have a holiday. In Mona’s case however how would that be different than any other day?
It is a valid question. It isn’t religious (Christmas, Easter); it isn’t patriotic (Independence Day, Memorial Day, et al); it doesn’t commemorate a person (MLK b-day, Washington’s B-day/“President’s Day”). It’s just the first day of the month.

I plan on ordering pizza and watching whatever’s on tv. Any excuse for a lazy day.

If you don’t celebrate overtly, is it still a holiday?

If you’re doing what you want to do, whatever that may be, then how is that wrong?
