Leave the old guy be. I really don’t care what some camo wearing swamp dweller has to say about my sexuality. Those on both sides of the flap are only using it for selfish reasons. Just let it go.

He owes nobody an apology. A & E set up the “reality” show, which is a fraud, and chickened out. I certainly don’t agree with anything Phil got roasted for saying, but it was in an interview with a magazine, not even on the program, THAT would be different, maybe. He’s speaking from his culture and religion, like millions of other Americans, right-wingers and “faithful”, doesn’t mean we expect them to respect others beliefs or lifestyles.

" But as an authority figure in a medium that can’t be challenged or questioned then no I do not think it is right."That old coot is as much of an authority figure as that Honey Boo Boo girl.

@dtroutma:I suppose you were vocally against the boycott of the Dixie Chicks when they criticized Bush. And you roundly castigated MSNBC when they fired Martin Bashir for criticizing Palin. Perhaps you took the Florida Family Association and the Southern Baptist Convention to task for their boycott of Disney. No? Can you say “Hypocrite”?

Look, you don’t have to accept anyones life style, but if you let your opinions be known you have to expect some kick back (but NOT by any government entity in the US…neither local, state, nor federal). If you are a media figure and your sponsor/s are inundated with complaints or boycotted, you can expect to be fired/suspended.

Opinions and and one’s expressions of them are free, but so are the consequences.

“Yet you watch the Show”Actually, I don’t. I’m not sure why you just assumed it, but you are wrong. I’m only vaguely aware of either show. I’ve never seen either Duck Dynasty or that Honey Boo Boo, nor do I intend to. I have very little patience for the vast majority of the so-called reality television shows.

Tigger: the Dixie Chicks comment was being almost ashamed of being TEXANS, not “Americans”, as usual, your statements are incorrect.

Zme: I roundly DID criticize MSNBC for the removal , as I supported the Chicks (the ONLY “country” album or CD I own was a Dixie Chicks CD I bought to support them in fact!), and have roundly condemned censorship or boycotting expression of free speech. As to being critical of some of that speech from either radical, or often stupid or crazy people, or just mean-spirited ones, Yes, I will be critical, but not take their right of speech away.

I may not like what they say, but I HAVE put my life on the line in combat to defend their right to say it! (My son and I share that view, and are both disabled veterans, when did the chickenhawks with big mouths and calling for suppression of opposers come forward? Rush? Oh, right, O’Reilly “fought” four wars with his PEN! What courage!!)
