Val: Is it COLD in here, Rena? Or is it just me?
Rena: I brought in a heater for under my desk...
Val: I'm wearing fur-lined boots!!
Rena: Mr. Maybe says it's our imagination.
Val: My coffee dregs are frozen!!
Takes me back (as most things do, nowadays). Having a little seniority at an office where we had been transferred, I chose a small room with an all-glass west wall because it had an outside door so I wouldn’t have to traipse in front of everyone for bathroom breaks, etc. In the winter, it was Freeze City. I had a little heater under my desk that I’d share with clients who sat at the corner of the desk near me. Also wore a top coat. This worked fine, except that from time to time all the electricity would blow our fuse, plus that of the office next to ours. And this was in Largo, FL, near St. Petersburg.
Did you gripe at the Soup Nazi too? In one case, the Safety “Investigation” of a near miss, no injuries, dragged on for months and the Funding source shut down the project & cost 20 people their jobs. People at my lab stopped reporting accidents, including myself. Get a grip…
where I used to work they would come around to all the cubes about once a week and check for heaters under the desk. If they found one they would take it and put a nasty gram on your desk. Got to where the folks that had them would have to turn them off an hour before going home and lock them in their desk.

You tend to get cold just sitting there, not moving your body!

Usually the offices that I’ve worked in are sweating hot in the winter and freezing cold in the summer. I never knew how to dress.

I work in a nursing home. It’s always toasty in there.

Unfortunately, both heating systems and insulation are designed for normal cold. Not this stuff. And both are probably 20 years old.
