This is a good, simple cartoon, and in my opinion it portends the near future. Chinese power is fueled by foreign money, of course, just as other empires in the past have been. When countries become wealthy, at first they build ostentatious monuments to proclaim their status to the world. Then they expand outward and conflict with existing powers; having done so financially, now the Chinese do it serious military fashion. History is a moebius strip.. China will soon have duplicated all the U.S. achievements in space, too. Remember Arthur C. Clarke’s novel, “2010,” in which the Chinese beat the Russians and Americans to Europa? A lot of interesting things will happen before 2100. Ironic, that an ancient Chinese curse (supposedly) is , “May you live in interesting times.”

As a kid there were two fears being preached by the JBS, 1. Russia would bomb us. 2. China would march their massive army across the Pacific and walk over us with their masses.

Of course, that was during the Korean War, and later I would have Chinese and Russian weapons and ammunition fired at me in ‘Nam, but now our biggest TRADING PARTNER is flexing their wings, that we fledged out decades ago, and it’s nothing but “evil, evil, evil”, because they’re all “commies” and today about as “commie” as Donald Trump!! (Still repressive government, yes, but “commie”? not hardly.)

It has to do with the Chinese claim of air space in which they expect foreign airplanes to identify themselves.
