A mile? That jet could have landed a hundred miles away. I think the combat radius of the Sabrejet was about 600 miles. (I was an airplane hound when I was a kid.)

You are right, phritzg. I forgot that the guys who robbed the plane were on foot, and the jet herded the plane toward that area before shooting it down. Their cave will be close by.
