When the Republicans were in power they could have down the same thing but they chose to honor tradition and minority rights. Oh and who was it that pushed Obamacare through?

The GOP would have gone nuclear as soon as they got a chance. By pushing until the Dems had no choice, they get to pretend it’s not their fault, but c’mon—there were 86 filibusters on nominees up to 2009, and there’ve been 82 since.

“When we almost daily learn of some wacko liberal judge who has set free a rapist or child-molester, or getting his/her 15 minutes of shame….”~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~All those wacko judges must have been nominated by the repubs, because they surely have not let any Obama nominations come to fruition. come to fruitation

" There’s plenty of evidence that Obama appoints judges that are as worthless as he is…"

Uh … who was it who appointed the judges who have set Monsanto well above citizens or government in this country …?

    I forget …

“Yuh, like those “free thinking” Supreme Court Justices; Scalia, Alito and Thomas attending Koch sponsored meetings”

Yah, but those weren’t Obama appointees, so we aren’t allowed to criticize them. I wouldn’t just criticize them, I’d impeach them, or whatever it is you have to do to get judges off the SC.

" It is about time that the Democrats stood up for democracy. "

It’s been a long time since we’ve seen anything like that from either party. This is what convinces me that we have a one party government.

    YMMV, naturally.

I just find it interesting that the co-founded by Fred Koch (the daddy) John Birch Society is still alive, and sipping TEA served up by the boys, and just remains just as stupid, bigoted, and intolerant as ever. (And posting here under several RWNJ monikers/avatars.)

Just a note: they still have plenty of bats left in the rack, and “bats” boys to keep bringing them to the field.

Church is ignoring the fact that Obama has a Constitutional right to nominate judges, etc. By announcing they were going to abuse the filibuster to block all such nominations, no matter what their qualifications, the Republicans effectively block that Constitutional right. THAT is why the filibuster had to be curtailed, and had nothing to do with what was going on 8 years ago.

Why have the Democrats chosen to “go nuclear” at this time when they haven’t in the past? Why doesn’t the threat of the Republicans returning to power and doing the same thing to them scare them?

    1. What would stop the Republicans from doing it without the Democrats having done it first? Sanity is obviously not an option.2. The Republicans have no one who can touch Hillary for 2016.3. It’s rare for an incumbent president not to be reelected. That makes it unlikely that there will be another Republican president before 2024. And, winning presidents tend to bring some of their party in on their coat tails.4. The country is more blue every day. Texas is expected to be blue by 2035,maybe sooner. Without those 34 electoral votes, it is quite likely that there won’t be more than one or two more Republican presidents—- ever.5. The appointees that Obama will be able to put in place will form a power structure that is more valuable than anything that can be won from the Republicans, who have proven impossible to deal with anyway.

So, why not? What have the Republicans given the Democrats that they can take back if the Democrats play hard ball?
