It would be… educational… to be able to sit down with folks at a coffee house and see where they get their information and to see how they react to where I get my information. Even the premises they present to why the President is taking the actions taken, or not taken, is confusing to me. How does it benefit Mr. Obama to “destroy” the USA? Is he an armageddonist who wants to destroy the world as we know it to bring on the second coming? Does he care so little for his children and his legacy that he wants to have us dominated by another world power? If he wanted either of these things, couldn’t he do it more simply by taking the information at his disposal and giving it to other world powers? Why be angry at Snowden if Snowden is doing what Obama wants in weakening us militarily? Why be upset with Congress if congress is weakening us financially and in the world? The accusations leveled at this man lack motive. And, based on a great deal of information I’ve been reading, the actions of those who oppose him lack reason. When I hear these opponents speaking, it makes even less sense.Instead of telling us he’s trying to destroy the country, tell us why he would want to, and provide some OBJECTIVE sources. Otherwise, please quit throwing gasoline on a fire that is consuming to many of our neighbors in this country. Respectfully,C.

Hmmmm. “Harleyqueen?” Would you say that to his face? I doubt it. You call people terrorists and cowards because they disagree with you. Of course you can do this behind the safety and security of an anonymous login. How brave of you. Following the many responses to the tenor of your posts, it’s obvious your poisonous rants are really not appreciated by either side of this debate.

I suppose its pointless to waste time suggesting alternatives to you, but here’s a poster that’s a direct opposite to you in the manner in which he writes, the logic of his content and the civility he employs in the discussion: read the posts of the Respectful Troll. People on all sides of the political spectrum respect his opinion and even when they disagree they respond civilly and usually strive to respond logically, not emotionally. I believe the operative word is CIVIL. It’s a good example that in this contentious environment people can strive for balance and compromise while maintaining a respectful tone.

Obama doesn’t claim the debt is going down. He claims the deficit is going down, which it is. It has nothing to do with comparing this or that number, but the fact that the deficit is the annual shortfall between spending and income, while the debt is the total amount owed by the government.

The deficit is shrinking, and doing so faster than under any President since WWII. Dollar for dollar the debt is rising faster than ever, but not as a percentage of GDP which is what matters.

Thank you Ypoons,While I believe in a certain amount of ‘socialism’ for people who are disenfranchised or, through no fault of their own, have had the rug pulled out from under them. Examples of this would be companies who went bankrupt and defaulted on pensions for retirees, small businesses who profited in the shadows of large businesses that moved offshore or to another state, or people who were doing ok until a catastrophic illness took everything away. There are also those who were born and educated in a time when race or even poverty laid such a poor foundation for their ability to compete in the labor market, they never had a chance to catch up. There are certainly those who repetitively made bad decisions, or who committed fraud to gain the system. We see that in the most successful businesses as well. But with regulation, inspection, and audits, those who are abusing the system – rich and poor – could be appropriately fined/punished in order to make illegal actions too painful to ignore. What I don’t understand is how “Capitalism” can be replaced with socialism. Money is how we trade for services. But if the gov’t gives money away, it is a subsidy or entitlement. If a citizen gives money away, more than 10k, the recipient and the giver are taxed. The man who was key in the capture of the DC snipers complained about this when he tried to give some of his reward money to people he felt needed it. I do understand how Mr. Obama’s position on gay rights and abortion make Christians and Muslims upset. I have no answer for that but I know enough history to know what damage humans who used religion to hold power can do. That is why the founders, many of whom would have probably been horrified by gay marriage and abortion, put that provision in the Bill of Rights. Of course, they would have also been horrified by guns that fire 100 rounds per minute, and women wearing skirts above their knees. The definition of basic freedoms and on what social issues the gov’t should or should be involved may be arguable between citizens, but they should not be used to shut down the gov’t. As an example, a woman is being sued for not making a wedding cake for a gay couple. I disagree with this suit. The woman’s freedom of speech and religion trumps the couple’s right to have a cake, especially since there are others in that town who could make the cake for them. This is not the same as not allowing that gay couple to eat in the restaurant or shop in a store. A Muslim or Orthodox Jewish caterer can’t be sued for not providing pork products at an event. Religious PoV must be respected as long as it does not conflict with basic civil and human rights. But at one time, Virginians could not buy clothes, cars, or other non food items on Sunday because Religion was part of the law.I don’t see how ANY President can do the kinds of things you say people think Mr. Obama is doing. And I don’t see how such things could survive the next Presidential election should Americans decide an administration had gone too far.Sorry this post is so rambling. It still doesn’t say it the way I want. I hope you see the context within my sloppy content.Thank you again for your reply. Feel free to write to me at sanesaint@hotmail.com if you’d like to continue the discussion outside of the ‘sandbox’.Respectfully,C.

The right-wingers and TEA piddles are proving to be Al Qaeda’s best friend, accomplishing exactly what bin Laden desired. (But we can’t mention who nailed him, and most of their leadership!)

The debt limit has to be increased every year to cover the bills that CONGRESS has run up over the past year.

bhinkle, please do a google search on Goldman Sachs and the Greek Economy. Here is one of many examples I found to reply to your statement.^http://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/news/goldman-sachs-the-greek-connection-1899527.html^Heidi Nelson Cruz works for Goldman Sachs as a vice president in the “Private Wealth Management Group”.^You are blaming entitlement/social welfare spending on Greece’s and the USA’s financial difficulties and you are partially right. We could argue about how large those parts are, but you are totally failing to off any other causes. The “too big to fail/too big to prosecute” financial institutions – WORLDWIDE – have been permitted to once more enter into risky practices as Congress failed to finance the agencies meant to supervise and prevent future disasters. Mr. Obama has his share of blame for our current situation, but so does Congress, and particularly, the most extreme elements within Congress. But like placing blame for the financial disasters in the USA and Greece, we would probably disagree on who is the most to blame. I am willing to force them to share that blame, Are you?Respectfully,C.

TEA party is the axle of stupid, more than the axis of actual “evil” Negotiation beats killing, whether people, or economies. Demanding that getting everything YOU want, or you’ll take the ball and leave the court, is NOT “negotiating”. Using the budget, and economy, to attempt to eliminate a law passed by Congress, approved by SCOTUS, and proving to be supported by a large proportion of Americans signing up to use the benefits of that law, is NOT “negotiation”, it is blackmail conducted by infants.

At least the Iranians and (maybe) the North Koreans are a bit saner than the majority of the Tea Party caucus.
