If born in 1945, he would have been 15 in 1960, long after lynchings were “commonplace”, and more than a decade after lynchings were prosecuted as Federal crimes.
Not saying the injustices of the past were negligible, quite the opposite. But the past cannot be changed. The current world, however, has a ton of its own systemic prejudices to be fought, and a lot of us are taking up arms daily against them. Focusing energy on battles that were over two generations ago, rather than what is happening in front of us today, seems counter-productive.
