Reminds me of a country song, “She Said, He Heard.”It goes something like, “She said we need to talk, He heard it’s over…”

Found it:They sat at the table, polite conversationAvoiding the issue at handThen he made the coffee and she did the dishesAnd sat down at the table againShe waited a moment hoping he would speak firstThough it never had happened beforeHe sat there in silence expecting the worstTil she couldn’t wait anymore

She said “I’m mad”He heard “I’m leaving”She said “I need your attention”He heard “I want you to crawl”She said “I’m sad” He heard “It’s all your fault”There is no translationEmotions don’t fit into wordsThere’s so much between what sheAnd what he heard

She said “I love you” that’s not the problemAnd I know how much you careBut for too long now we’ve been walking on eggshellsI just had to clear the airHe looked at her like she was speaking chineseWith some of the letters left outTry as he may he just didn’t knowWhat she was talking about

Then he started smilingAnd she started laughingThey both reached out their handsShe said “I think we’re from two different planetNo wonder we misunderstand”

My son was explaining a character in a video game to me yesterday: “She’s a siren. She can control everyone around her with just her mind.”

I said: “Oh – so she’s normal then..”

Talking is okay, but that listening part has to go.
