When my mom was sitting down relaxing with a cup of tea, I knew that was the best time to approach her because she was calm. But it also might be irritating because her “me time” has been interrupted. Good luck, Michael! My answer would be “If you help out and do the preparing, setting up and clean up, I’ll take you shopping and do the stuff that you can’t do”

I know how this will go. He’ll ask and she’ll say no but he’ll keep pressuring til she reluctantly agrees to it. Then she’ll bellyache about it til it’s over. If she’d learn to give a firm NO and DON’T ASK AGAIN it would help. But just like having the library sale at her house, she’ll agree to this and drive everyone crazy about it.

I agree with you, but that’s not the way it will go. Elly will be pressured to give the party and will do all the work. She’ll complain and all the Ellyhaters (who read the comic even though they hate her) will delight in digging their fangs and claws into her. And on it goes.
