Do you think all American diplomacy has to offer is gunboat diplomacy?

In part true but mostly because you and your fringe make it easy for the world to do so. The rational and moderate are usually less strident (well, hence why they are rational and moderate). Fortunately, many of us know this, witness many perfectly sane Americans commenting on this forum. The trouble is, many people won’t take the trouble to sift the wheat from the chaff, so the overall impression is a bad one.
No one that I know of who were briefed on the intelligence took the threat lightly and didn’t think the precautions to protect American lives were the right thing to do.
Interesting. When the US consulate in Benghazi was attacked, so-called conservatives railed against Obama. Now the US has closed consulates and embassies in response to alleged threats, so-called conservatives are railing against Obama. It’s almost as if they intend to criticize and complain about Obama no matter what happens.
You do understand that the invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan had nothing to do with either weapons of mass destruction or punishing the Taliban? Take a glance at the map and point to the nation that sits between Iraq and Afghanistan. Real geopolitical aims, not the tripe that is feed to the masses through the media.
&@MStevenson58Verdad…yet not because of which random fu#& is elected president, but how Americans persist in the belief that USA knows what’s best for everyone else as expressed through its narcissism, militarism, and consumerism …sad thing is how many other societies are buyin’ into this crap. Then, again, plenty of other countries are loathsome and laughable, too.Jesus weeps…
You can’t have it both ways…..either they stay open and lives are at risk as always in foreign service, or they aren’t open. Either way, the brickbats will have their say- one of the great things about this country!y
