@ P M: At the time that this strip was copyrighted, plaster casts were still the primary way of immobilizing leg fractures. (Other than portable traction braces.) IIRC, walking casts weren’t introduced until sometime in the mid-1990s.

Hey, I went to my husband’s prom with a cast and crutches! Had the best time – couldn’t dance but got first dibs on the food! :)

Alvin is her main guy, but she will go out with others she finds cute. If the other guy stands her up, she expects Alvin to be there for her.

Now they have walking casts, so he just might be able to dance, at least the best he is able to with a cast on.
