    I was taught that a recipe is a roadmap that gives you the straight directions. If you want the scenic route, add other ingredients and a different dressing or three for salads (sometimes on the side so you could experiment). Always worked out for me and the various socials I attended. Worse comes to worse, you drive the way you like, I will drive my way

    My roommate seems to be the queen of experimental cooking…she’s always coming up with new and interesting dishes made from stuff we just had lying around. Some of our favorite regular meals were developed this way.

    I think most common dishes were once somebody’s crazy idea. For example, someone once thought “I wonder how peanut butter would taste with jelly?” or “would this macaroni be good wth melted cheese on it?”

    I rarely ever follow a recipe step by step. I usually “tweek” it.
