Oh, and to those of you who, yesterday, advised people living by the sea in hurricane regions to move, Im curious… In what places do you live that are immune to natural disasters?
If impending hurricanes are severe enough we know to head north and inland. Otherwise, we ride them out. A friend in OKC had lots of damage to her home and was asked by folks in another state why she stays there. She answered, “Because it’s my home.” No matter where you live you are susceptible to natures fury and you have to live somewhere. I’ve lived through many a hurricane in my lifetime. Fortunately, I’ve never sustained any personal loss. Not so, however, for folks that I know.
Favorite charities: Salvation Army, USO, St. Jude’s Hospital, local abuse shelters and local food banks.
Where you live is home to you. Where they live is home to them. The US is not a safe place to live weather/natural disaster wise. Your area, as well as the midwest are susceptible to everything but hurricanes. Including the mega volcano that is Yellowstone. There is nowhere to run and nowhere to hide.
My favorite charities are St. Jude’s, Wounded Warriors, and DAV. My favorite local ones are Open Door Animal Sancutary (no kill), the school backpack program (sends home food for hungry kids), and our local food pantry.

I live in Central PA and we have had a bit of everything, even a mild earthquake. So it’s the luck of the draw in my opinion.
Favorite Charities: Special Olympics, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Wounded Warriors, Ronald McDonald House.

Volcanoes and 300 +/- years overdue for the next giant earthquake. So not too much to worry about!
