The red dot is a big hit around here — just don’t aim it around breakables.

In our house it is called the red bug and starts with a couple of cats trying to flatten themselves into the carpet. They then become low flying rockets, which wakes up the rest of the cats. It usually ends when two or more furry rockets collide with something or someone that makes a sudden noise, startling every cat in the (except the two 18 year olds) into a panicked flight for the four corners of the house.

look again. The kitty isn’t stuck to the wall, the kitty is through the wall.

How much fun that can be had with a lazer pointer varies per animal. One cat will wear herself out trying to catch the dot, while the black tom show no interest. Out our two dogs, the terrier, when he could see, didn’t care about the dot. The lab mix would just about run himself to deate chasing the dot outside.

Cuddles Cockatoo could be completely freaked out by any light reflecting on the walls or ceiling (she had the fright response as if to a predatory bird).

The first time I pointed a laser at a wall, high enough for the cat to jump, he fell in the wastebasket. That was not my plan, but it is my finest memory of that cat.

that must have been one great, daft half hour..today I met a small light brown poodle – getting ready to pounce on and tear apart a piece of cellophane. He was circling it, just waiting for it to move.
